Mobile-Banking Consumers Would Use Mobile-Data Services
Current or would-be users of mobile financial services are far more likely than non-users of mobile financial services to use other forms of mobile-data services, such as Internet access or movie and music downloads to their mobile device, concludes an Aite Group LLC report. In January, the Boston-based research company surveyed 500 credit and debit cardholders online and found a significant increase between non-mobile financial users and respondents who were likely or very likely users of one or more mobile financial services. The survey results indicate an opportunity for cross-selling between banks and mobile operators in the United States. For example, 48% of survey participants who were using one or more mobile financial services indicated they were already subscribing to a mobile data plan or intended to do so within the next 12 months. That figure is more than double the percentage of participants who were not using or intending to use mobile financial services, the report says. Mobile gaming was the most popular of entertainment services among respondents. Seven percent of non-mobile financial-service respondents use mobile gaming or indicated that they were likely or extremely likely to do so within the next 12 months compared with 19% who have a high or extremely high likelihood of using mobile financial services within next 12 months.
